A Pennsylvanian Tetrapod Trackway from Joggins, Nova Scotia: the Size Continuum of Batrachichnus Salamandroides
نویسنده
چکیده
A tetrapod trackway from the Lower Pennsylvanian at the historic section at Joggins, Nova Scotia, preserves 13 pairs of impressions with a possible partial tail drag. Although overstepping and poor preservation obscure many of the diagnostic features, the pes is plantigrade to semi-plantigrade and distinctly pentadactyl, with digit length increasing sequentially I-III. The manus may be tetradactyl, but no single impression allows this to be stated confidently. The size of the tracks is within the known range of Batrachichnus salamandroides, which is known from the same location, and so these tracks are assigned to this ichnospecies. The trackmaker was a small temnospondyl, although multiple candidates are known from body fossils in this section.

Redescription and Phylogenetic Analysis of the Mandible of an Enigmatic Pennsylvanian (Late Carboniferous) Tetrapod from Nova Scotia, and the Lability of Meckelian Jaw Ossification
The lower jaw of an unidentified Pennsylvanian (Late Carboniferous) tetrapod from Nova Scotia--the "Parrsboro jaw"--is redescribed in the light of recent tetrapod discoveries and work on evolution of tetrapod mandibular morphology and placed for the first time in a numerical cladistics analysis. All phylogenetic analyses place the jaw in a crownward polytomy of baphetids, temnospondyls, and emb...
متن کاملThe Different Traditions of Invertebrate and Tetrapod Ichnology
Two distinct traditions exist in the study of ancient ichnofaunas, which may be termed the ethological (invertebrate ichnology) and the biotaxonomic (tetrapod ichnology). Consequently, there are two different kinds of ichnofacies, each peculiar to one tradition, and we term them ethoichnofacies (invertebrate ichnofacies) and biotaxonichnofacies (tetrapod ichnofacies). In the Paleozoic, the Chel...

A series of sandstone slabs from Hamstead, Birmingham (West Midlands, UK), preserve an assemblage of tetrapod trackways and individual tracks from the Enville Member of the Salop Formation (late Carboniferous: late Moscovian-Kasimovian). This material has received limited previous study, despite being one of the few British sites to preserve Carboniferous tetrapod footprints. Here, we restudy a...
